What if suddenly you awoke to find yourself on a deserted island, not knowing how you came to be there and not knowing if you will ever return to where you came from? would you be confident that those who are in your life, those who matter, are clear on what they mean to you? would you hope for just one more chance to ensure someone knows what they mean to you? Benjamin Franklin wrote ‘write injuries in dust, benefits in marble’ referring to the impact life might have on you. write the benefits of happenings in marble, so you remember them and the good you have gained, and write the memories of how you have been injured (by others) in dust so they are more easily forgotten. I won’t assume to improve on the wisdom of this great man, but I wish to suggest a similar saying in relation to the way we treat others … write injuries in dust, encouragements in marble. be known and remembered for the kindnesses, the encouragements, the goodness you invest into other’s lives rather than being remembered by the hurt you leave behind. Of course, we are not stranded on a deserted island, but our opportunity to build up another might vanish in the blink of an eye … at any time. are you confident that those who are in your life, those who matter, are clear on what they mean to you?
